Architect Engineer, Mandated Professor

Architect Engineer (UTH) with an MSc. in Environmental Design and Engineering from the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies at University College London. She is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Architecture Engineering at the University of Thessaly.

Katerina Drakou is an Architect Engineer (University of Thessaly) with an MSc. in Environmental Design and Engineering from the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies at University College London. She is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Architecture Engineering at the University of Thessaly. Her doctoral research focuses on the analysis of low energy dwellings design parameters in the Greek climate. She has participated in research, (day)lighting and low energy building design projects. She has received distinctions as bioclimatic design consultant in international architectural competitions. She publishes in conferences and participates as lecturer in architecture workshops. Her research interests include architectural design, effect of architectural design on the building energy balance, low energy building design, indoor environmental quality, occupant behaviour and its influence on the energy balance, building energy simulation, thermal and visual comfort, (day)lighting design. She is a Bodossakis’ Foundation scholar.


She is an Academic Fellow at the Department of Interior Architecture of the International Hellenic University, where she teaches the courses "EA304: Interior Architecture III" and "EA402: Interior Architecture IV". She is also adjunct professor in the M.Sc. “Lighting Design” in the School of Applied Arts and Sustainable Design at Hellenic Open University, supervising theses. She has additional teaching experience, in the form of co-teaching and thematic lectures in the Postgraduate Studies Programme "Urban Regeneration and Development" of the Department of Planning and Regional Development, of the School of Engineering, of the University of Thessaly and in the Lifelong Learning Programme for the Update of Knowledge of Graduates of Higher Education Institutions "Urban Regeneration and Green Design" (A, B and C Cycle Organisation: Department of Planning and Regional Development U.TH, Department of Agriculture, Laboratory of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Department of Architecture of the University of Thessaloniki). She was a teaching assistant in the courses "Bioclimatic architecture", "Lighting of buildings" and "Energy design of buildings" at the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly.
